It is not MY extension. I merely used
<http://addonconverter.fotokraina.com/> to convert it from Firefox
compatibility to SeaMonkey compatibility.
Without the extension, the oldest history entries are deleted when the
places.sqlite database is filled. The database has a fixed size of
10Mb.
Once the extension is installed, use [Tools > Adons Manager >
Extensions] to display the list of extensions. Scroll down to the
"Expire history by days" extension, and select the Options button.
There is an input area for "Expire visits older than these days".
If you have exceedingly many bookmarks, set a very large number of
days,
or check the "Disable Places expiration" checkbox, I am not sure what
happens when the places.sqlite database is filled. I strongly suspect
that, if the checkbox is not checked, the automatic deletion of oldest
history entries will occur even if the specified number of days has not
been reached. If the checkbox is checked, I suspect the database will
grow greater than 10Mb until entries are deleted when they are older
than the specified number of days; once that happens, the database will
not then shrink unless you manually vacuum the database or you use
SpeedyFox (which vacuums all indicated .sqlite databases).
Thanks! Hmm. I just backed up my places.sqlite, installed your
extension, and did some simple tests like 30 days, 28 days, and 1 day.
Nothing seems to be changing since I still see 7/26/2019 12:00 AM as my
oldest entry that I manually purged before using this extension. How do
I manually vacuum the database without SpeedyFox? I tried SpeedyFox.
File sizes did shrink, but I still see old entries for like 1 day. :(
I noticed some time ago that the extension is not perfect. I have the
number of days set to 30, but it seems to purge at 31.
My test this morning involved merely selecting [Go > History] on the
SeaMonkey menu bar and then selecting [View > Group by > None] on the
History window menu bar. When I then select the Last Visited column
button, the oldest entry was 23 July 2019, which is 31 days ago.
This is still better than not having the extension.
Hmm. Yeah, I'm not seeing them removed even with 1 day only. I view my
history by newest (top) to old (bottom) dates. Since it is not working
for me, I guess I will stick the old method of manually deleting old
entries. :(
