Preferences > Mail & Newsgroups > Message Display and remove the check
mark for "Block images and other content from remote sources".
..although it is especially useful to block remote content in the
case of
spam. If you allow it, you've told the spammer you are a valid email
address so you will then receive much more of it.
That's why the wife should use the "Options" button and select "Show
remote content in this message" for trusted sources.
The user could also go through the list of sources of the remote
content in that menu, and allow remote content for the images they
want to view.
