In your terminal window (Xterm) type 'man youtube-dl' (without the quotes) and then Enter and read the fine manual. Use the space bar to page down, b to go up and, as it says, q to go back to the shell prompt.

O.K., when I did this, it responded with 'No manual for youtube-dl'

I take it this means I haven't actually installed youtube-dl .... Right??

My brain fade: obviously the man page doesn't get installed using the direct download as you did.

Instead, go to <https://github.com/rg3/youtube-dl/blob/master/README.md#readme> which contains the same info.

O.K., so I didn't stuff up!! YEAH!! ;-) (Maybe!!)
