I connect this HP 6730b Laptop to the Internet via a 3G USB Dongle out

See if your 3G USB Dongle has any updated firmware/ drivers/ modem
software/ etc.
I had one of those USB Telco dongles for a work supplied laptop & and
it took about 3 iterations of software updates before it stopped
dropping the connection.

O.K., Lee, I hadn't considered the problem being with the Dongle. I had
to replace my Dongle six to twelve months ago and, now that you mention
it, I think my problems may have started with this new Dongle.
When I do 'lose the link', I can re-boot or totally shut down the Laptop
and then, when I next connect, I can look up my account on my ISP's site
and it will show that I 'disconnected' some time (as long as a couple of
hours) after I lost function-ability!!
I'll certainly look into it.
Thanks for the suggestion, Lee.
