Thanks a lot for the hint - but even when starting seamonkey with
LC_ALL="de_DE.UTF-8" /usr/local/seamonkey/seamonkey2/seamonkey/seamonkey
I only get english for selection... Maybe I do something else simple stupid 
wrong..
Applying another languages package is not possbile because all packages are
still 2.49.x and thus labled as not compatible :-(
Both application locale and regional settings local are English (United States=

Any further hints appreciated!
