Lightning is an extension that comes along with SeaMonkey, but you
can remove it if you do not want it.
Netscape 4.x had a "Calender" component, along with the Browser,
Email, Composer and Address Book elements we know nowadays. I think
it made it to the early Mozilla 1.x levels as well but it stopped
being maintained and was eventually dropped.
Seamonkey is going back to the roots by adding Lightning.

If you look at my user-agent (and I have Lightning), yes. I believe
most add-ons are os-agnostic.
