In January we will be moving the ebase support lists to a new hosting company that uses state-of-the-art email list software (Lyris) and hardware (Sun servers). The new services should be easier to use, more reliable, and will add a few new features. In addition to the move to a new hosting service, we are going to combine the Support and Newbies lists into a single list called Support. The content overlap and number of cross-postings between the Support and Newbies lists has gotten to be too great to have two lists make sense. Some of the new and improved features we plan to add include: -Simplified subscribe, unsubscribe, and list help processes. -Subscription confirmation: new subscriptions are send a "are you sure you want to join" message to confirm their email address, and to ensure someone else did not subscribe that person as a prank. -Default email reply: The default when you press the reply button is to the List. -Failsafe unsubscribing: default message footer contains the member's email address and instructions for unsubscribing. The list will automatically recognize the member and unsubscribes them. No more "get me off this list" messages. -A web interface that makes it easy for people to subscribe, leave and change their settings. And with any luck you will also be able to search, read and contribute from the web. -Online archive of list messages which can be read via your web browser, and indexed to help you find that important answer. -The new list functions will allow visitors to be able to read and search the archives on the web, even though they can't (or don't want to) post to the list. We will be testing the new listservers from now until early January. Once we are convinced that it is "ready for prime time" you will get more information about the change and what to expect.
