That's baloney. Did someone tell you that on this list? You can't
establish refs in other nodes by making data requests.

You can't get gpl.txt? Anything?

There's something wrong. It's not a popularity problem. Why can't you
register with inform.php, for crying out loud?

Are you on Windows? Do you have one of those ZoneAlarm firewalls?
There was a report here recently that those things actually do
firewalling by -application- as well as IP port. (This is brutal and
wrong, obviously, and everyone who works for ZoneAlarm should go to
Turkish prison.) You might need to open up your firewall on port 80
(HTTP port, what inform.php uses) for "java.exe" or "javaw.exe" or
something.

[Can we make this a FAQ? Does anyone else have better info on this
than me?]

If this is really hard and makes you sad, try this procedure instead:

        1) In your browser, go to http://www.octayne.com/inform.php

        2) SAVE the output to a file called nodes.config in your
           Freenet directory.

        3) Restart your node.

If you can't get addresses out of inform.php (quite possible), ask
other people to give you their node addresses, and add them to
nodes.config by hand.
