If you are referring to Matthew Toseland, you should know that he has
never actually tried using Sun's 1.4 JRE ;-)

I use Sun's 1.4.1 JRE exclusively and have experienced no problems on
any of the platforms on which I use it.

To my knowledge, there is no firm evidence that Sun's 1.4 JVM is causing
any problems.
Politically, I object to licenses that grant Sun license to remote control
my PC without my knowledge and are sufficiently non-redistributible not
to have a debian package... But technically, I have perhaps blamed some
problems on it that may not be entirely its fault.
I'm very glad working with kaffe is an objective of the project, but I can't get it to work at all on the machine I'm running Freenet on, so I'll persevere with Sun on the understanding it is also a 'preferred' platform for Freenet. Thanks for the clarifications.
