The setup: one Linux box on the outside, with Shorewall (iptables), local Windows box with Sygate. Shorewall to protect from inbound, Sygate to protect from outbound basically, in case you're wondering. Anyway.

Starting freenet this way results in zillions of log entries on the Linux box similar to these:

Dec 2 16:20:00 *** kernel: Shorewall:rfc1918:DROP:IN=eth0 OUT=eth1 SRC=(outside IP) DST=192.168.0.2 LEN=48 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=105 ID=31092 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=62785 DPT=2400 WINDOW=65535 RES=0x00 ACK SYN URGP=0

Probably an issue with the Shorewall config. Open
/etc/shorewall/interfaces and see if the norfc1918 option is enabled on
your interfaces. If so, try disabling that option.

Yay! That was it! Thanks! Maybe it should be added to the FAQ?
