Does freenet start? Check for freenet.log in the install directory and 
send a few pages output from it to the list.

8481 and 8888 are meant for your usage (8888 is the web interface and 
8481 is the fcp interface that freenet client programs use), don't 
allow unknown hosts contact those ports.
