Even the error message tells you what to do:

> $ cd freenet
> $ sh start-freenet.sh"

in your case, since you 'unzipped' the tar to your Applications/Utilities
folder, you'll need to "cd Applications/Utilities" instead (or whatever
the path to your Applications/Utilities folder is ...   I would imagine
you will find it easier to just follow the above instructions so that
everything goes smoothly)

If you do the above it should all be pretty simple.  Also are you
definitely running SUN JRE (you only say the version number below, not
actually who made the JRE you're using...)
