We've had some problems on our IRC channel on Freenode with spam coming in through tor. Privmsg's are blocked for unregistered users, so the spammer is using notices and CTCP to the channel. At the moment, the solution we have implemented is this: - Tor users cannot speak - They can be manually +v'ed - If they get a tor/regular cloak, they can automatically speak (but can be blocked if they cause problems) - When the freenode registration finally completes, we will be able to give out freenet/ (or perhaps freenet/regular/) cloaks.
IMHO we need Tor users to be able to talk to us. The above compromize is the best we're going to get short of running our own IRC server or going to some other network where they can just block notices to a channel. (But even if they can do that, a spammer can still send privmsg spam if they register with nickserv, which is trivial; IMHO it's best to stay with freenode). -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
