A partial implementation of opennet is available now, as of a few builds ago. It is still undergoing debugging, and there is no centralised seednodes list / announcement mechanism yet, so you still have to manually exchange 2 or 3 noderefs - but your node will make it up to 15, and keep them connected. The main caveat is if your node is down for more than 5 minutes it's likely that your peers will dump you.
