Much of the redesign of ebase v2 (still in alpha stages) is meant to
address this issue.
ebase version 1 is not easy to turn into an application that can
drive a web site. I've done it a number of times, in different ways
(CDML, Instant Web Publishing, Lasso).
But the best solution (though time consuming) I've found has been to
create a flat file that maps with the ebase data you are trying to
capture, (mapping the flat file to the ebase import table ... or just
using a copy of the ebase import table), then using Lasso or CDML to
create customized interfaces to the database that you are using to
"drive" your website.
Examples you may have seen are the ebase download and registration
processes: all the data gathered by those forms export directly to a
copy of ebase we have running separately from the web site.
We're hoping we can get at some of the root sources of these problems
with version 2. We're at the point where we've narrowed down the
functionality we want to provide, and have prototyped a goodly
portion of the code in Lasso.
But ultimately, the web-functionality that will be shipped with
version 2 will be created through a series of user-customized HTML,
XML, CDML pages that may or may not use Filemaker's Instant Web
Publishing feature (they will definitely use Web Companion).
Hope this helps!
