Kevin:
It helps to know what kind of computer/operating
system/capacity/RAM-ROM/network/ebase version/FilemakerPro version
you were attached to to give detailed advice.
Without this information, I'll jump in and speculate what happened:
>"While using the internet, without warning my
computer shut down"
Something happened either in your TCP/IP stack or your network stack
(assume ethernet) that shut down your OS. This was common with early
versions of OpenTransport for the Mac, and I've seen it happen with
Win95 and 98 (NT seems to be a lot better on this particular problem).
This caused improper termination of your Filemaker application, which
was unable to close out your ebase files (creating the file
corruption problem). Filemaker wants all of it's files to be polite
and say "hello" when they open, and say "goodbye" when they close. If
that doesn't happen, the files get cranky and sometimes refuse to
cooperate, producing the "File is Damaged" error.
Question 2:
To replace your version of ebase (and preserve your existing data in
case y ou need it):
1) Copy your current version of ebase to a folder on a new zip disk.
Label the folder: 010123ebaseBAD.
2) Create a zipped copy of the bad ebase collection. Store it on the
new zip disk. This will create a second backup (you may never need
it, but storage is cheap and mental health expensive).
3) Delete the version of ebase (and all shortcuts) from your hard drive.
4) Copy your backup version of ebase to your hard drive, create new
shortcuts to it.
5) Make sure your backup works and is not damaged.
6) Try to remember what data was entered between the time your backup
was made and the time your database crashed, then do your best to
reenter.
Sorry about the crash. But think of it as a test of your patience and
adaptability: we don't get handed lessons we can't handle.
ooooommmmmm!

>Question 1 is: anyone know why this might have happened?
>Question 2, the basic one: I have a zip disk with a backup, which I want to

>is the only damaged file? Basic, I know, but any input would be appreciated.
