I've been looking at screen layout before finalizing some written procedures and, naturally, where to enter various data must be accurately described in the procedures. We've already moved some fields and added others but before going further, I thought it would be best to understand the rationale for the original design. So, I'm going to ask some questions and make some observations - - - In the run time version, data entry 2 is, for the most part, duplicative of information contained on two other screens. All the snail and electronic address information appears on both data entry 1 and the home screen. Why? Affiliations also appears on both DE2 and the bio screen. Why? My thinking is that "Research" can be moved from DE2 to DE 1. There is space. In that way, all the research boxes can be checked on the same screen on which you enter the information. Alternate contact info appears on the bio screen. Why? It seems to me that this is 'address' information and could easily appear on DE2, replacing the otherwise duplicated address information. Contact at, by, during, and freq appear on the activist screen. Why? My thinking is that these fields would be better on either DE1 or DE2 We use only "contact by" and have moved it to DE1. In this way, most initial record entry would require only DE1 If you make these changes, there is very little information left on the bio screen and some of that is duplicated on the activist screen. There is a lot of spare space on the activist screen, especially if you don't need the voter info and you don't use the empty space in the action pref box. It seems to me that, with these changes, the bio screen can be eliminated and its tab re-assigned to Data Entry 2. -- Simply, John Watkins Executive Director mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://simsoc.org Thank you for you! THE SIMPLE SOCIETY'S MISSION is to create a fresh, innovative model of a simpler, more humane society that empowers everyone to achieve their full potential. The model will reduce institutional and social structures to the simplest levels needed to produce their intended benefits and will embody these six principles: 1. Everyone is personally responsible for their own behavior. 2. Everyone has the minimum personal obligation to become and remain self-sustaining. 3. Compassion must be reliably available when it's needed. 4. We all have a profound stake in motivating and empowering others to give us their best. 5. We all have a profound stake in encouraging a positive creative environment. 6. In all human relationships, seek the greatest degree of fairness, not advantage. The Society and its members will then do whatever is necessary to smoothly integrate the model into everyday life. ------------------ Reminder to each recipient: To change your list account preferences, go to http://email.sparklist.com/scripts/lyris.pl?enter=support and enter the email address you used to subscribe to the ebase support list:: [email protected] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] --------------------------------------------------------------------- ebase - Relationship Management for Nonprofits, http://www.ebase.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------
