The "@" character is a wild card character and gives FileMaker fits. 
You can sometimes get results looking for just the username (to the 
left of the @) or using an equals to force FileMaker to look for 
exactly the following string. For example, seaching for 
[EMAIL PROTECTED] would find no results, but 
[EMAIL PROTECTED] would find my record.
