> How does one search in ebase for a found set of FIRST memberships or
>memberships renewed after a lapse of membership? Specifically, I am trying
>to find current members who either joined for the first time between
>December 1, 2000 and February 28, 2001 OR those who had renewed between
>those dates after they had been a "lapsed" or "former" member for a (any)
>period of time up until they rejoined.

The easy way works if you have been filling in a field called Member
Type on the payment entry screen. The options there are New Member,
Renewal, and Complimentary. What people normally do is record either
new or "renewing lapsed" dues payments as New Member, and others as
Renewal. If you have data in these fields, you could search for dues
payments within your date range, for New Members.

The harder way would involve searching for the earliest dues payment
for a record. This would not, of course, find renewals, so wouldn't
do entirely what you want. I can't think of a way to trap the lapsed
renewals. Anyone else?
