> Did your organization draft a database plan prior to choosing ebase?

No.

Not formally. E-tapestry was recommended to us but we went with ebase
because it was free. But we didn't really investigate ebase in too much
detail when we did - no time!

so,

Microsoft Access. This is not really a donor database. I wanted something
that was customizable for fundraising, easy to use (e.g. printing thank you
letters and receipts), and that we could use as a tool to track our
progress.

Contact list, donor tracking, sending direct mail.

> Do multiple people in your office use ebase at the same time?

No.

> Do you own FileMaker Pro or FileMaker Pro Server?

Yes.

Very little as we have only had it 6 months and it is being done by a
volunteer. I have only customized Thank You letter #1 to include a tax
receipt and the mailing lables to fit mine.

I haven't used it enough, no time!

I did, I was quite dependent on one at first (who was kind of useless) until
I met a volunteer at another organization who tutored me in the basics. If
there is money we plan to hire a consultant to help us do the next
customization.

> Do you find the ebase manual helpful? Why or why not?

So far, yes. I'm one of those people who do look at the manual first. I
imported our data from Access first time with no problems, and I'm no
computer geek.

> Do you find the ebase support listserv helpful?
Why or why not?

I'm glad it's there but to be honest I'm so swamped every day that I never
have time to read the postings so I delete them.

Ease of processing thank yous, tax receipts, and new solicitation letters at
the touch of a button.

> What are the main drawbacks?

I just need time to fully customize it so I can get the full benefit of it.
