Colin's got the right idea, working with the calculated Replace function, but I would add that in FMP 5 there is a text function called Proper(text) that changes the first character of each word in the field "text" to upper case and the others to lower case. In response to my problem --
In our old database, people had entered name and addresses sometimes in all caps. When I merged the data into ebase that formatting remained.
I'm attempting to follow the above advice but having no experience with calculations I'm having trouble with the formula.
I have Filemaker Pro5 (on a PC) and in the manual on page 5-6 in the Specify Calculation dialog box what is the exact formula I would use. So far I have highlighted the first name in the Data Entry screen in a Found set of records and used the Replace function to take me to this dialog box. I know I want to use Proper (text) but what is the rest of the formula -- precisely please if you will.
I have this much: FirstName1 Proper(text)
What else do I need in the formula and do I have to type something in (text)? I'm practicing with a Zip backup file.
