You post the amount paid (total) in the Amount field. The portion of
that which is non-deductible (market value) gets posted in the
Non-deductible field. A third field, Tax Deductible Amount, is
calculated from these, Amount minus Non-deductible Amount.

In the thank-you letter layout for this function you would use merge
fields as shown below. (check the ebase and filemaker manuals for
details on using merge fields in layouts.

> ...thank you for
>your payment of <<$100>>

Use merge field <<Amount>>

>given on <<xx/xx/2001>>

Use merge field <<Post Date> (for one of your events, you would use
the date of the event, rather than a merge field)

>check number <<1234>>,

use merge field <<Check Number>>

>of your payment <<$51.00>> is tax deductible.....

Use merge field <<Tax Deductible Amount>>

>How can I get ebase to do something similar?
><< >>=fields I enter data into

Just to be clear - You don't have to enter data on the letter layout,
it's done when you post the payment.

>
>If I post the non deductible portion seperately do I put the amount in the
>non-deduct field?

You post the total payment in amount, the portion of that which is
non-deductible in Non-deductible. The balance is calculated.
