Suzy,

If I could afford to buy a vertical market relational database (Blackbaud or one of
the like) I wouldn't be using ebase. I'm using ebase because:

1. Creating my own fund raising database (or more accurately, having one created for
me) using Fox Pro would have been a time consuming process. Ebase, when you
also buy File Maker Pro, already pretty much has what you need to manage the fund
raising process.

2. Ebase is relatively inexpensive. You get a lot for about $150.00.

3. Documentation (even though it's slim and lacks a usable index) is available, so
training others to use the program should be less problematic than a database
we created ourselves.

4. The user group is a valuable problem solving and learning tool.

So, to sum up, in my opinion, ebase is not as good as an expensive fund raising
database (I've used Blackbaud's Raisers Edge 7, Donor$ and Fund Master), but it's
better than one you create on your own. Also, all database programs have their share
of bugs and problems. This is nothing unique to ebase.
