As usual, Dave is entirely correct.
I was looking at buttons, or trying to update on the view payments
screen itself - what I didn't see was that there is an entry in the
scripts pull-down menu that says "edit current payment".
Note to self - investigate all buttons and menu pull-downs before
asking for help...
