If you
are using FileMaker Server 3 there are some things that it doesn't like you
doing while shared (even with no other users) one of them is redefining fields.
Your best bet is to take your database off line, make your field changes
then remount it. Yep it is a pain but it is one of those "FileMaker server
things" that you get used to. (but at times it will let you mod a field over the
network if the database has not had users for a while. In this case "letting
you" is the bug - not a good idea to do this even if it lets
you).

Subject: [support] shared file message -- can't modify field definitions
------------------Ebase-ers ...We're using 102 with FMPro Server (not yet using FMPro 5). Even when all users have exited ebase except one master-level user, I am now unable to modify field definitions. Instead, I get the message:' This command cannot be used with a shared file. To use this command, make sure that you are the only user of "names_.102" 'I've tried exiting ebase completely and restarting it as the only user. I also closed FMPro Server. I even restarted the machine that FMPro Server is on. No luck. Still the same message.Does anyone have any ideas or guidance? Might there be a 'flag' accidentally set somewhere that shows files as having more users than they really have?TIA if you can help.Regards,Eric JohnsonColorado Environmental Coalition------------------
