Jana,

That depends on how they were copied. To "restore" from an exact copy,
you should zip or compress the original copy of ebase (see your
Operating System documentation), then simply open the folder with the
"backup" copy. To "start" this copy, you should double click the
Ebase_.102 (or .103) file. If you are using the "runntime" version,
double click the ebase or ebase.exe file instead of the ebase_.102
file. If the files in the backup copy were renamed, you'll need to
re-establish the proper names. The zipped or compressed copy of ebase
should eventually be deleted if it is truly defective. Confirm that the
backup has any data you need, then you can safely delete the compressed
file.

Now, having said that, you should know that having two copies of ebase
is not only not a real backup, it can cause problems. Filemaker may
choose to use either or both copies during one session, so the data in
each copy may get mixed up. I'm also learning that filemaker may
encounter more insidious problems if you have two copies, which may
explain your original problem (though I don't recall specifically what
that problem was).

If you want to keep a "backup" copy of ebase on the same hard drive or
same computer, you need to change the files, either by renaming them or
by zipping or compressing them (so that ebase and/or filemaker can't
recognize them). Better yet, keep the backup on a removable drive and
remove that drive when it isn't being used to backup the data.
