John,
You can't easily store more than one message per source code. I'm not
sure just what you want to do but you generally don't want to re-use
source codes or use the same source code for more than one message.
They are generally sent out at different times under differrent
circumstances, and to the extent that you want to track the efficiency
of any one communication, you need to track them separately for them to
be of any use.
What I was suggesting was to consider using the source code routine as a
way to keep a record of your contacts. For example, when you output an
email, you are first asked if you want to create the text from scratch,
use an existing source code or use just the text from an existing source
code. If you select a source code that's already created, then you can
create a contact record that is flagged with that source code. But as
you probably know, that source code can have text attached to it. That
text can be a copy of text that is created elsewhere, and you don't have
to use the source code text block as the actual message.
So... For example, create a source code and type in text (or you could
paste text from a Eudora message or Word document) into the text field
of the source code. Next, go to output, select email, select the
existing source code and text and output that message following the
directions and create contact records. You'll now have the email
message(s) to send. You'll also have that source code attached to the
people who got it. In order to see the message, you can go to the
Add/Edit Source Codes in the Admin screen. Scroll through the source
codes or do a find for the code you want, and there's your message.
As for the "buckets", I was referring to the six categories or summary
levels available to use for source codes. You don't have to use the
Campaign, Unique Appeal, Month, etc. as summary levels. You could
create your own tracking system with the first "bucket" acting as the
"level of importance" (that is 1=most important, 5=unimportant). Or you
could just add those values to the Campaign level "bucket" and keep
track of what value means what. If you want to search for all "Most
Important" messages, you could do a find for any source code starting
with a "1". To further narrow the found set, query for source codes
with a specific month or year in them (assuming you keep at least one
date related bucket, which I think you certainly should do.
Hope this clarifies what I was suggesting.
