Title: Re: [support] Re: Importing from ACT
Jane,

And I forgot to add one rather obvious option: export your data as text. You may have an option to choose a “delimiter” (a standard way of telling where data in one field stops and the next field starts), but it does not make much difference which standard you use (comma or tab delimited). Then you can import using the procedure I outlined in my previous message, making sure that “All Available” is selected in the Show: drop down menu.

Jane,

If you were successful at exporting your ACT data from ACT into an Excel-readable file, try opening the file with Excel to be sure. If that works, then you can import into ebase using the Import Data procedure. Be careful when you select the file that you are selecting files in the Excel format, which is one of the options in the Show: drop down menu in the Import dialog box (the one that asks you to root around on your hard drive to find the file to import into ebase).

I have been reading the support list for quite sometime now and I'm ready to
really get started.  I have Filemaker Pro 5 and ebase working together nicely
on my PC.  The database of aprox 900 is now on ACT 4.0.  I have a floppy disk
with the data, however, I do not have ACT on my computer.  When I follow the
directions to "Import Data" I cannot get my information in a readable form
for the "Import Field Mapping."  Is this possible to do without actually
having ACT?  I also tried converting from the ACT floppy info to excel,
thinking that would be an easier conversion to import - no luck, just random
unreadable info.  Can this be done, and if so, how?
