I had some time to waste, so I put together a current zip code file. My
source is MAILERS+4 software (September 2000 version) which uses the post
office national database for various standardizing stuff.

The file has:

- 41453 unique zip codes (00210 - 99950, US + Puerto Rico)
- county name and county FIPS number
- latitude + longitude (2 digits past decimal point)
- congressional district (35222 filled, left blank if more than one CD in
zip)
- time zone
- MSA and PMSA
- area code (23885 filled)
- city and county names are properly upper/lower cased

It's a 7.6 mb file and winzips down to about 2 mb. Email me directly and
I'll send it to you. Feel free to post it to some central downloadable
site.

With all the new census data coming soon, there will be lots of info to
build big reference files to auto-enter lots of demographic and political
district data. I've downloaded some Massachusetts data and with a zip +
plus4 match, you can already link to race, ward, precinct, and state
legislature district data.

Anyone interested in this kind of stuff?
