I've migrated data from Fundmaster to RE win 6.x and from RE win 6.x to RE7. I'm most
familiar with RE7, since that was the program I used last. I've also
migrated from Foxpro to ebase, but I'm a pretty new user of ebase.

I may be wrong, but I think most folks migrate into ebase using flat databases or at
least databases that are far less hefty than a vertical market program like
RE. Ebase doesn't have all the functionality of RE, it doesn't capture relationships
between constituents, for example. Appeal codes are handled completely
different in ebase than in RE. You're probably going to run into differences in field
lengths and format that may give you some headaches. Fund codes is one place
that comes into mind where field length or format may be an issue. Ebase also doesn't
handle constituency codes in the same way as RE. You're probably going to
need to buy Filemaker Pro so you can customize ebase, otherwise you're bound to lose a
lot of data that just won't have a place in ebase.

The big thing, I think, is to do a careful job of mapping your data so you know where
everything will end up once you migrate into ebase. RE is such an
intensive program, with so many fields of data - this is going to be a big job. I
printed out Blackbaud's field map for data migration from 6.4 to 7 and it was
a huge document, 20 or 30 or more pages. I think you can download a copy of that
document (or one like it) from their web site, which will be helpful to you in
the process. The ebase manuals and the data dictionary (available on the ebase web
site) will help you figure out where to migrate you RE data to in ebase.

Do you home work before hand, make sure your data is relatively clean and consistent,
know where it's coming from and where it's going to go, and be prepared to
import more than once. Good luck!
