There was a question and several replys on the FMPRO mailing list that sound similar to this problem. It looks like there are things you can do in scripts that might cause problems, e.g. not checking for record conflicts.

Search for "Record conflict during Add Record".

I am definitely not an expert on this area but from some of what I have read, the locking scheme in FMP locks a record and searchs just skip records that are locked. So I am guessing that if multiple people do things at the same time they could wind up with inconsistent results, i.e. serious FMP bug in inproper locking high enough in the file to get consistent results. In other words I am guessing that two different adds, got the same record number for subsidiary files and overlayed the results.

Subject: [support] Add Name script and record conflicts

Hello All,

Had a weird thing happen yesterday using Ebase in over FMP Server 5.  I was teaching a class, we had about 10 students all running Ebase off the server, and they all went to add a name record.  All went well except that one person’s record failed to create the requisite related records.  Upon investigation, it created Profile, but not Summary or Custom.  (So when she tried to edit the record, she got the Added Correctly validation error.)

I’m puzzled as to what could have caused this.  We’ve been running into various record conflict issues, and I suspect something of that sort, since it happened while 10 people were doing similar things at once.  But I don’t understand how another user adding related records to a DIFFERENT name record could cause a conflict with this one.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Matt ------------------
