There are a couple of things I would look at before concluding that 
the file is damaged (which would require restoring from a backup). 
First, did the import proceed correctly and the post date get into 
the correct field (I presume the post date is the field you are 
searching on). The second one I had in mind is that you are doing the 
search the same way. Your description below sounds right, though, 
entering > date into the post date field.
