They are there to help in exporting to your accounting program so that you
know what account to deposit or charge to. Most people have not made much
use of it. You could use it for a very primitive accounting program in
ebase. We use account entity to tell whether the money went into our general
fund or the restricted fund. We use account code to match various accounts
numbers in QuickBooks. However we have not yet succeeding in talking between
the two programs - working on it. There are lots of opportunities for
creating duplicate/conflicting data entry here, e.g. an account code for
dues and an entity for restricted fund.
