It appears to me that you are trying to edit a text block that is
locked. When you click on it with the text tool, FileMaker attempts
to start a new text block. In layout mode, select the object in
question with the arrow tool. If it's locked the corner handles will
be gray, not black.
To unlock an element, go to layout mode, select the element with
arrow tool, select the menu item Arrange>Unlock.
