We have been using ebase for two months now. There is some information in
our legacy database that I did not import when we first set up because it
was not critical and I wanted a better understanding of how it might fit.
So what we have in the legacy database is a volunteer y/n field and a
volunteer memo field that is a history of the member's volunteer efforts
over the years. I thought (late on Friday night!) that it might be possible
to import those fields into the "activist?" and "volunteer activist memo"
fields on the activist page. I backed up the database and spent some time
trying this. Our legacy data is also in filemaker. I didn't have much luck
and had to go back and undo what I did do. I was using address and names as
matching fields. Record numbers no longer match up between the current and
the legacy databases so those can't be used. And of course what I'm trying
to do is import into the profile module not the names module, and there
aren't really any good record markers like name, address, or record id in
the profile module to insure that the new information is getting dropped in
the right place. Does anyone have any advice about how to handle this? I
would really like to be able to see who is volunteering this year and which
project they are working on or have worked on in the past. I suppose we
could resort to manual data entry but that seems so unadventurous. Is my
only option to use the user fields and the custom layout?
Thanks for your help.
Sincerely,

Anna Clarke
