I'll second Walt's comment that much of what your asking is at a
level that should be addressed by the developer list.

This is possible within the current FileMaker command set. Use the
Replace command, and use a calculated value. The calculation would be
Affiliation & "forest activists"
this would add "forest activists" to the current value of
Affiliations, so wouldn't overwrite the current value.
