First, using FileMaker 5 it is possible to export as merge fields any field in the ebase system. The Output tab has a button for file export, and several options under that. You can adjust the field list to export any fields you need. This might be a good option for you if you need formatting that FileMaker can't handle. >I am using Filemaker Pro 5 on a PC. I compose the letter in Word >and it fits on the page. When I transfer it to a Letter layout in >ebase I loose a huge section at the bottom and I can't get the same >amount of words (same font and type size) on the ebase layout as I >got in the word processor. It is as though Filemaker has a huge >bottom margin. One of the formatting options that is often overlooked is line spacing. Filemaker sets this by default at one line equals16 points, more than a word processor would assign for 12 pt type (14.4 pts) and way more than would be used for 10 pt type (12 pts). The difference in the way it looks versus the way it prints in an interaction between FileMaker and your printer driver that is, shall we say, obscure. Try setting the line spacing to something other than 1 line and see if it prints more like it looks. - In layout mode, select the text block - Select the menu item Format>Line Spacing>Custom - Set the spacing to 12 or 14 pts, adjust to work for you. >On the layout setup the bottom margin is supposedly .56 or a little >over half an inch.
