There's something strange happening to our database. I opened it up this
morning, and it was just fine, for about 5 minutes, and then I got a
"names file is damaged" message. I went to yesterday's backup, and the
same thing happened. Before it crashed, I was able to check for
yesterday's data entry, and everything was there. I opened up yesterday's
backup again, and I haven't had any problems yet, but I'm concerened the
file is damaged, and I don't want to start entering new data until I know
for sure. Usually when the names file is damaged a message will pop up
immediately, and I won't be able to open the database at all. Is there a
way to check the names file to see if it is damagaged? If the file is
damaged, can I somehow save yesterday's numerous new records and import
them into the back-up for the 22nd? Thanks for your help!

Sue Gilbert

PS The "Names file is damaged" message just popped-up on the database.
When asked if I wanted to continue using the database I clicked yes, and
got a message that said "Sorry. Filemaker is unable to read the disk this
file is on. Click continue to try again, or click Exit and copy this file
to another disk."
