Leone and Ted,
A quick clarification. The *public beta* version of ebase 2.0 for FileMaker
is scheduled for release at the end of September. This will be available for
download only. The public beta version will include basic documentation, and
we will also set up a listserv for peer support and to gather feedback.
Pending user feedback during the public beta test, the final version of
ebase 2.0 for FileMaker will be released by the end of the year (the release
that Ted referred to).
We haven't talked yet about whether to make ebase 2.0 available on CD, so
I'd be interested in hearing from people about this. We have talked about
using external download sites to ensure availability of the download.
For more information, check out the write-up "About ebase 2.0 for FileMaker"
at http://www.ebase.org/help/help.htm. (Our site is down for major
maintenance right now. Please try again later today or early next week.)
We will be doing an ebase 2.0 training tour this fall in a few cities (and
more in the spring). Right now we have scheduled stops in October for NYC
and DC; in November for Seattle and San Francisco, and are planning one in
Atlanta in December. In each place we'll do a day-long introductory training
for users and a two-day training for local ebase trainers and consultants.
I'll send out more details on these trainings as soon as details get
finalized.
Thanks for your interest!
Liz

Leone,
I think there were some difficulties with the download site earlier this
week but it should be working now. The plan is for ebase v2 to be released
late this year...around December.
More information about V2 is on the ebase website:
http://www.ebase.org/help/ebasev2FAQ.htm
The latest version of FileMaker is probably the only version you can buy now
and it is version 5 (or 5.5). That would be fine for the size list you have
(or any size list, really). If you will be running ebase across a local
network and will have multiple users on the network, consider getting
FileMaker Server.
I have not worked with Denari before but a quick look at their website
mentions that information can be exported in ascii format. If you can
export name and payment information, and whatever else you need, from
Denari, you can import it into ebase.
Hope that helps.
Ted

Subject: [support] Version 2
My foundation is currently using Denari, but I'm looking into converting to
ebase. After several attempts to download the current version, I've decided
just to wait for version 2 because I understand it will be released in
September. Is there any information on when it will be available? Will it
be available on a CD as well as a download? What version of FileMaker would
you recommend--my patron list is between 2000-3000? Will I be able to export
my Denari files to e-base?
Thanks
Leone
