Pulling a list of:
-New Donors in previous year, first gift given ever before
10.1.1999...9.30.2000 (>=10)
-Second year donors made first gift between 10.1.1999...9.30.2000 AND made
additional gift between 10.1.2000...9.13.2001
- these numbers should give me the Renewal Rate for first year
donors____%
-Previous years continuing donors, Made first gift ever before 10.1.1999 AND
gave additional gift between 10.1.1999...9.30.2000
-Continuing Donors, Made first gift ever before 10.1.1999 AND gave
additional gift between 10.1.1999...9.30.2000 AND gave again between
10.1.2000...9.13.01
-these numbers should give Renewal Rate____%
Then I need to obtain the overall renewal rate between the two..

I have built something for a client that approximates this, and works. Walt
is right: it is non-trivial. Getting the current year's numbers is easy.
It's getting membership numbers for a time frame entirely in the past that's
tricky. Rhonda, Walt, contact me off-list if you have specific questions on
how to do this (definitely takes quite a bit of FMP knowledge, though.)
