Partly depends on whether by "remote access" you mean different
machines at the same location (your office), or access from different
locations (office plus home, for example).

If you mean several machines at your office, it's pretty easy. Yes,
you need FileMaker at each of the machines from which you will be
using ebase. The ebase file set lives on one of the machines and is
hosted by either a copy of FileMaker or FileMaker Server. If you have
only one or two other users, FileMaker will do an adequate job of
hosting. If more than that, you will want to host using FileMaker
Server. In either case, the host machine should do nothing else.

FileMaker has built-in file sharing. You need to set the network
protocol to match your local network, start ebase on the host
machine. Then you access from the remote machines. Review the section
in the FileMaker manual on Sharing for more detail.

If you mean to access ebase from a different location, then Walt's
cautions apply. Technically it's similar, using FileMaker's built-in
file sharing, but there are issues of:
- access - the host machine will need a fixed IP address
- security - if your staff can get access, theoretically others can
- speed - without a high-speed net connection, access will be deadly slow.
