To get to the report layout, go to Layout mode first, then in the
popup menu above the rolodex, select the report layout from the list.
You can make your changes there.
Thank you very much. May I take this a step further and ask: How do I grab a
field we have named "Supporter" from the Data Entry screen and put it on
this layout (the Name list), so the contents will show up on the report by
the respective name?

When you call this report using ebase, it starts a script which finds
the appropriate records, sorts them, takes you to a layout, and jumps
to Preview mode so you can view the report on screen. At that point
(where you are trying to go to layout mode) the script is Paused, and
FileMaker will do nothing else except continue the script (with the
button on the left of the screen). So you continue, and you jump from
that report back to the Home screen.
