You need to take advantage of the "New Find Request" script that's on the
Script menu. In Filemaker, a new request serves one of two very different
purposes: (1) it acts as an "or'"search, joining the criteria on the first
request with the criteria on the second request with a logical "or"; (2) it
acts as an omission, if you check the "Omit" box under the rolodex icon in
the status area.

An example of the first type (the "or" search): On the data entry screen,
hit the "Find" button. Enter "Sitka" into the city. Then, select
Script->New Find Request. Enter "Juneau" into the city. Hit the <Enter>
key, or click the find button over in the status area on the right to
perform the search. You'll get all records where the city is either Sitka
or Juneau.

An example of the second type (an omission): On the data entry screen, hit
the "Find" button. Enter "AK" into the state. Then, select Script->New
Find Request. Enter "Sitka" into the city. Check the "Omit" box under the
rolodex icon in the status area. Hit the <Enter> key, or click the find
button over in the status area on the right to perform the search. You'll
get all records where the state is "AK" except for those where the city is
Sitka.

So, to perform your search:
- From the HOME screen, hit the "Find" button.
- Enter "Lapsed" into the member status.
- Hit the "Contacts" tab at the top of the HOME screen to get to the
Contact History screen.
- Select Script->New Find Request.
- Hit the Tab key until your cursor is in the source code field.
- Enter one of the recent source codes.
- Check the "Omit" box under the rolodex icon in the status area.
- You can repeat the previous four steps ad nauseum to omit as many recent
source codes as you'd like.
- When you're done entering criteria, hit the <Enter> key, or click the
find button over in the status area on the right to perform the search.

That should do it.

>I have a group of lapsed members--easy enough to find.
>Some of them have received recent requests for renewals (marked by
>source code on the contact records), others have not. How can I select
>only those who haven't received recent requests? It seems like I need
>to start with an initial Query about lapsed members, but I haven't
>figured out how to then further refiine my search using those Contact fields.
