Jana,

Alas, substituting one file is definitely not a good solution.  You run the risk of:

1.  missing other files that may have been damaged

2.  putting un-synched data together in a relationship

3.  finding, down the road, that things are much worse than they originally appeared (or worse than they actually were).

As I understand it, without serious professional assistance (people who know FileMaker file formats inside-out) that is likely to be quite costly, you must revert to a full backup (not substitute in one file) to get back to an uncorrupted state.

Subject: [support] damaged "names" file

Our Ebase was not properly closed. When opening Ebase, that message appears and then a message stating the Names file was damaged. I removed the names file from the Ebase.102 then copied a backup of names back into Ebase. It seems to have worked. But, is this a bad way to go….just replacing one file rather than using our entire backup copy? Could other files be damaged too (i.e. payments, etc), even though things seem to be working fine? Shall I proceed differently?

Thank you
