Melissa,

There are different levels of data security, some of which ebase addresses.
For example, you can set up passwords within ebase to limit login access to
the database (there are default passwords already set up when you download
the data).

If you're running ebase on a server, there are additional issues of data
security that arise, particularly if you wish to enable any sort of remote
(off-site via the internet) access to the data or if your server has an
always-on connection to the internet (e.g. DSL). Ebase itself doesn't
address these other issues well -- they have more to do with hardware,
system software, and the like. If your data is exposed to the internet, it
may be exposed to hacker attack, and you might want to consider a firewall
or other protective feature to safeguard your data.

An additional aspect of data security is doing regular, archival backups of
your ebase data. We make them several times a week (using WinZip; there are
other alternatives, including some for Macs), and save them onto CDs which
are kept off-site -- the archives stretch back about 8 months at this point.
The reason for doing regular backups is to prevent total catastrophe if
ebase is corrupted, hacked, or there's a theft/disaster at the office.

I hope this information helps.

I am wondering when you download ebase if the software
goes directly to your server and if you are the only
one who has access to the data. thanks in advance for
your comments.
