To all, In my subject line, I mean "giving campaigns" to cover organizations that donate funds collected from individuals. I think United Way is the most widely recognized example I can think of, but of course there are many others...
My thought is that these should be handled as an Ebase "payment" from the "giving campaign organization", since they are the ones that formally provide the donation. So the "organization" providing the funds would have a record in the Ebase NAMES_ file. Of course, there is often a desired to also track the individual who directed that their contribution be funneled to our operation. I'm thinking that this additional tracking of the original contributor is best accomplished by two methods: 1. an entry in the "pay memo", or 2. (more rigorously) through an added field named "Donated for", which contains the Ebase "Record Number" for the appropriate person. A lookup field or field displayed from a relationship might be added to the "payment" layout to show the name of the originating individual... In this circumstance, I believe Ebase's internal summations would tally these contributions to the giving "organization", but some customization could also be added if it is desirable to report this by the "originating individual". I'd love to hear from any others who have handled this type of information in Ebase. In particular if you have critiques of the approach I've outlined, I'd love to hear them and benefit from them in ADVANCE, rather than implementing something which has flaws I might have been forewarned of. Any comments, critiques, or experiences to share? Thanks much. ************************************************************** Larry F.
