There is specialized foundation grant-tracking software. One such
product is MicroEdge Gifts for Windows. (http://www.microedge.com) The
folk at the Brainerd Foundation here in Seattle have used it for several
years and could tell you whether or not they're happy with it.

I'd also enquire among foundations of similar size and style to your to
find out what they use.

best,
jon

Subject: [support] Re: Is ebase appropriate for use as a database
forfoundations

Dear all,

I'm brand new to ebase. We do not have any members. Primarily we apply
for support from foundations (and get rejected). Will ebase help me
manage my foundation database?

It will help, but that's not what it was primarily designed for. You
might find some of the functions clumsy. For example, payments in your
case would be larger and relatively infrequent compared to individual
contributions. Payments in ebase are coded as Dues and Contributions,
but grants are usually tied to a particular program. The relationship
between funder and grantee usually proceeds in a different manner than
donor or member and an organization.

That said, note that Clif Graves of Tech Rocks has created a Grants
module that plugs into the standard ebase structure and is organized to
handle grants better. It takes a bit of customization to your copy of
ebase, but i think it works pretty well.

If you decide to use ebase to manage grants, we can find out if Clif's
work is still available.
