We have obtained a CD of our county's registered voters. The
information that came with it said that it was a DOS file containing
data that has a fixed length for each record (AKA Standard Data
Format); that in each record the fields appear in pre-determined
positions (as described on an accompanying layout sheet); and that to
use it in a database, this file needs to be imported after the
databse file (*table*), with relevant fields, has been built. The
layout sheet assigns a (presumably, beginning) numerical place for
each field and similar numerical designation (width?) for the field.
I assume that this is a very well-known type of file, but I am at a
loss how to set up File Maker to import it? Can FMP import this file
or what database can?
