You'd need to create a field in your import file that duplicates the calculation of the field Dupekey:tight in the names file, then create a relationship using those two fields as the key fields. More detail in the FileMaker User Manual on relationships. You'll also need to review the section on field definitions to help you find the DupeKey calcuation and apply it to a new field in your import file. >one caveat about manually looking up the record number for each >transaction: i did that recently and ran in to a confusing problems for >records which were already in my database, but not in my "legacy" data >(i.e., records added after the first numbered batch, that ebase assigned a >record number). for newer records, the LegacyID field is not set, so even >if you have the record number in your import file, you'll still end up >with unmatched records. i solved it by setting LegacyID = Record Number >for records that did not have a LegacyID. i believe that this was safe in >my case, since our legacy data did not have record numbers (i invented >them for the purpose of importing data). > >or is there something i missed? I'm not sure. If I'm reading your description right, you see a problem with records that were created in ebase after you did the import. But if those records were added after the import, they shouldn't have payments in your import file. -- -- Dave Shaw H4 Consulting tel: 206-954-7526 fax: 206-625-1338 ------------------ Reminder to each recipient: To change your list account preferences, go to http://email.sparklist.com/scripts/lyris.pl?enter=support and enter the email address you used to subscribe to the ebase support list:: [email protected] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] --------------------------------------------------------------------- ebase - Relationship Management for Nonprofits, http://www.ebase.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------
