CONFIRM THAT YOU ARE ATTENDING!
Call the CT Coalition to End Homelessness at 860-721-7876. We must know how
many people will participate and which programs/communities in the state
will be represented.

SECOND - BRING THE FOLLOWING
1. At least one banner per group. (See below)

2. Designate one person for every ten people in your group to serve as
peacekeeper.
Peacekeepers will insure that we follow all the laws that apply to our vigil
including not blocking the street and leaving a path open on sidewalks.
Peacekeepers should arrive at the vigil wearing a white armband (home made
will do.)

3. For those coming from outside of Hartford, provide food and beverages
for your group to have either before arriving or after leaving the vigil.
We will not have food or beverages at the vigil site.

4. Designate one person in your group who has experienced homelessness to
be prepared to speak to the press - TV, radio, and newspaper. Assist person
to develop brief talking points regarding the increased demand for emergency
shelter and the need to fund affordable housing and services as the real
solution to homelessness. Help direct the press to that person during the
vigil.

5. Candles for the vigil will be available in Hartford at the start of the
vigil.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR MAKING BANNERS FOR THE VIGIL

The goal is to reach people in their cars as they drive to the highway.
Therefore, banners have to be large, with neon lettering that is at least
 24" high.

Recommended Messages:
(1) No Room At the Inn or (2) No Vacancy or
(3) No Place Like Home Bridge (or Box, or Park Bench, etc.)

A simple approach is to tear a bed sheet lengthwise and place the message
lengthwise as well. Several people can stand together to hold the banner
with each one still being able to hold a candle for the vigil. Another
option is to use poster boards; place one letter per board and then have
people stand in sequence beside each other to spell the message.
Use neon spray paint for the letters.
Loews Home Improvement and Home Depot each carry spray paint.
